Oregon Inmate Records Use Two Systems
County jails are local facilities for booking, pretrial detention, court transfers, holds, and many shorter sentences. Movement can make a person vanish from one search while the underlying case remains active. Release, transport, a DOC transfer, another-county hold, hospital placement, and federal custody are all possible. A person may also appear in DOC data while supervised in the community or temporarily housed in a county jail for a hearing. Search “custody,” “facility,” and “supervision” as separate facts. When identity matters, compare the SID or booking number, full name, date of birth through an authorized channel, case number, and facility.
Search Oregon DOC by Name
The free Oregon Offender Search, also called the Adult in Custody Lookup, is the central DOC search for public information about people in Oregon state custody or supervision. It accepts a name or SID and does not require registration. It is not a statewide county booking roster. A recently arrested person can remain absent until sentenced and received by DOC, while a person on post-prison supervision may still have an Oregon offender profile without occupying a prison bed.

Use a SID when available because it is more precise than a common name.

Read an Oregon Offender Profile
An Oregon profile is a public operational record, not the judgment itself. Dates can change after sentence credit, resentencing, Board action, detainers, or recalculation. A temporary “Institution Based Records Office” location can reflect transport to a county jail for a hearing rather than release from DOC.

The criminal judgment states the sentence imposed. DOC calculates operational dates from that judgment, jail credit, sentence relationships, earned-time eligibility, detainers, and later orders. Obtain the judgment from the circuit clerk when proof of the sentence is needed. Medical information, victim identities, risk and security classifications, complete visiting lists, Social Security numbers, and prison disciplinary details are not expected in the public lookup.

Find Oregon County Jail Bookings
Oregon has no one official sheriff roster covering every booking. Start with the arrest or custody county, not merely the person's residence. A sheriff site may offer current inmates, recent bookings, releases, a name search, or a phone confirmation. Some counties rely more heavily on VISOR. A “current” roster is an operational list rather than a permanent arrest index, and a released tab may cover only a short window.
Open the relevant sheriff through the Oregon county directory. Select current custody before relying on results, search the surname and first name, and open the matching booking. Record the page timestamp or update notice. Compare booking number and available identity data, then note each charge and originating court. The booked allegation can later be declined, amended, or replaced by the prosecutor, so confirm the filed count and disposition in the court register.

A county inmate profile describes a booking and present jail operations. It does not prove a conviction or display every late court change.

“Released” may mean recognizance, conditional release, transfer, sentence served, or release to another agency. “Lodged” means held. A detainer requests transfer or notice. A roster's security amount can combine counts or omit a no-release hold. Contact the jail for physical custody and the court for filed charges and judgment.
Use Oregon VISOR Notifications
Oregon VISOR, the Victim Information System in Oregon, offers jail and prison custody search plus registration for alerts. Searching is not the same as registering. Notification enrollment may collect a phone number or email, account credentials or PIN, and selected events. Historic VINE materials describe English and Spanish phone service and alerts for transfer, hearing, release, or escape.
VISOR helps monitor changes, but delivery depends on agency feeds and current contact details. It is not legal service, and immediate threats require emergency services.
Oregon Booking and First Appearance
After arrest, jail staff confirm identity, take fingerprints and a photograph, inventory property, record charges and holds, and perform health, safety, and classification screening. The jail then coordinates with the court and prosecutor. Oregon hearing rules, local calendars, weekends, warrant status, and filing choices affect the time of first appearance. Avoid assuming one fixed statewide hour limit from a roster timestamp.
At first appearance, the judge addresses the accusation, counsel, later dates, and release. Oregon uses recognizance, conditional release, supervision, and detention criteria under current rules. There is no single facility address that represents county custody statewide. Oregon sheriffs may operate a main jail, use another county under an agreement, or publish separate booking, visitation, property, and records contacts. The correct facility follows the arresting or current custodian. Use the Oregon county directory to reach the county sheriff's official corrections page, then confirm the booking line, physical location, lobby rules, visitor schedule, mail address, and approved deposit provider.
Call the booking function for present custody and the records function for historical documents. Staff may state a next court date, but the court calendar remains authoritative. Bring government identification for permitted lobby business and follow security rules. Do not arrive with prohibited property or assume that cash is accepted. A vendor account used by one Oregon jail may not follow a person after transfer, and a DOC trust account is separate from a county jail phone or commissary account.
If the person cannot be found, check name variants and the arrest date, then try VISOR and Oregon Offender Search. Ask whether a release, hospital move, court transport, another-county hold, federal placement, or roster-removal policy explains the absence. Oregon Inmate Visits and Contact
Every Oregon DOC visitor must be approved before a reservation. The application can be submitted through DOC's published online, fax, or mail routes. Approval does not create an appointment. Schedules and visiting formats vary across Oregon institutions, and county jails set their own rules. Verify location immediately before travel because a transfer can invalidate a visit or send mail to the wrong facility.

DOC uses ICSolutions for phone and video services. Calls are limited to 30 minutes and are monitored or recorded; phone validation is required. Mail must use the committed name, SID, institution, and sender return address. County providers and mail formats can differ. Trust deposits and phone accounts are also separate, so verify an official agency-linked vendor before paying.
Request Oregon Inmate Records
For a prior county booking that no longer appears online, ask the sheriff records unit for the booking sheet, charge and hold screen, release record, or transport entry. The arresting police agency may hold the arrest report, while the circuit clerk holds the judgment. Federal Inmates in Oregon
Federal custody is separate from Oregon DOC. The official Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator searches federal prisoners. A federal pretrial detainee may still be housed under contract in an Oregon county jail, so a BOP search alone may not show the person's current physical location.
Juvenile custody is also separate. Oregon Youth Authority and juvenile court records are not ordinary public adult inmate records, and authorized family or counsel should use the appropriate youth or court channel.
